The following map of shows the hamlet of Oakland. Oakland is just west of Nunda Village and is in the Town of Portage. As you can see, the community had its heyday while the Genesee Valley Canal was in operation. This map is from the Atlas of Livingston Co. New York, published by F.W. Beers and Co., 1872.
