Announcing a new local history book on the Nunda area!

Bicycle riders and local band members pose on East Street in Nunda in this 1890s photograph, one of over two hundred images found in the newest book in Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series.

Nunda, Portage, and Genesee Falls explores the history of the three towns and nearby Letchworth Park from the days of the Seneca to the dawn of the 21st century. Written by local historian and teacher Tom Cook, the book's chapters include : "Beginnings: 1800-1850;" "Nunda: 1850s-1950s;""Portage: 1850s-1950s; Genesee Falls 1846-1950s; and "Modern Times: 1950s-Present."

In addition to photographs and stories from each of the towns, the book also includes information on the Genesee Valley Canal, the famous Portage High Bridge, and Letchworth State Park. The historic images come from the collection of the Nunda Historical Society, local town historians, local residents, Letchworth Park, and the New York State Archives.

The book is being sold locally by the Nunda Historical Society for $21.99. It is available at the Nunda Family Pharmacy, Bell Memorial Library, and the Society's Historical Building. You will also be able to order a signed copy by using the order form in our gift shop.
